The second-hand marketplace Shoppers Share Frustration Regarding Sizing Modifications
Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in listings displaying inaccurate size information.
The popular resale platform has revised its measurement guidelines for women's and children's garments but did not contact every member regarding the update.
Online Platforms Backlash
Many shoppers and sellers are posting online saying Vinted listings now show a different size category compared to what was initially listed due to the recalibration.
Vinted explained the updated approach better aligns with other platforms.
It has advised users to review their products and update the measurements by hand where appropriate, resulting in member annoyance.
Sizing System Updates
Earlier, the sizes had both numerical and alphabetical indicators, such as S/8 or M/10.
The new system has a letter with a size spectrum for example S/UK 8-10.
For certain items, the size labels have been reassigned - for example a size L was previously a 12 but currently displays as UK 16-18.
Shopper Accounts
A fashion influencer, who produces content about larger sizing, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.
Another user, located in Scotland, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were displaying on the service as larger sizing 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she stated.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, located in England, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, as I'm chronically ill and platform income has been essential following partial earnings loss," she stated.
Platform Context
The platform boasts over 100 million users, including 18 million in the UK.
It has become a favored option to second-hand platforms like eBay and Depop.
This isn't the first time where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: earlier, the platform withdrew an update to its shipping options following member complaints.
