The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a New Divinity, Calling it Their Biggest RPG Yet

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. Larian Studios is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This choice of words hints that the team might be designing a real-time experience instead of another turn-based title. For now, it remains theory, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it kicked off the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and flexible progression—elements that later reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust granted to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, sometimes in unexpected fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a clever way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to hail games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games in history. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this legendary franchise.
