"This championship is in dedication of my child my daughter, because the maiden victory I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

Medvedev's counter-punching strategy and recurring outbursts on court had caused some to wonder if his ability to play at the top level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, attempting to advance forward and compete positively, backed up by an improved serving game.

The champion came back from a deficit in the opening set against the difficult Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five exchanges to go ahead.

The competitors traded breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to create a decider.

The opponent defended 4 initial chances in a close third set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to serve for the match.

Appropriately, the winner earned the title with a point at the net area, with Moutet unable to control a shot after a lengthy match.
